Keeping Georgia roads safe over St. Patrick's Day holiday

Authorities in the state of Georgia recognize the role that consuming alcohol plays in celebrating St. Patrick’s Day. They also recognize the importance of keeping residents of the state safe. Accordingly, the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety partnered with TEAM Georgia—a sober driving coalition—to get the message out that drunk driving is not acceptable. In addition, enforcement on the roads throughout the state will be increased.

There are things that partygoers can do to make sure they do not get behind the wheel to drive after drinking too much alcohol. These include:

  • Skipping the alcoholic beverages completely.
  • Volunteering to be a sober driver.
  • Designating a member of the group to be a sober driver.
  • Leaving keys to car someplace where you cannot get to them.
  • Download the Drive Sober, Georgia app.
  • Look into public transportation.
  • Plan on taking a cab.

Following these suggestions could keep Georgia roads safer over this St. Patrick’s Day holiday. Of course because drunk driving accidents occur year round, they could be helpful at other times as well.

Despite the fact that drunk driving accidents are completely preventable when drivers follow guidelines such as those outlined above, some people will fail to follow them and crashes will nonetheless occur. When they do, and other parties are injured, a personal injury lawsuit may be appropriate. For injured individuals considering this course of action, it would likely be beneficial for them to work with a lawyer who has handled such cases in the past and understands how they work.
