Several Georgians injured in accidents over Memorial Day weekend

Memorial Day weekend has come and gone, but many people across Georgia are still dealing with the aftermath of a holiday weekend accident. There were several accidents across the state that left 15 people dead and countless others dealing with the devastating aftermath of a tragic car accident.

Holiday weekends are typically known as periods of time when car accident rates increase for several reasons.

According to a recent article, Memorial Day weekend is time when the roads can be clogged by:

  • Increased traffic levels, as people are traveling more and for longer distances
  • More drunk drivers
  • Drivers distracted by passengers, texting and getting directions
  • Increased numbers of pedestrians and bicyclists
  • Aggressive drivers who get mad, frustrated and reckless by holiday traffic

Despite widespread enforcement, educational and marketing efforts to curb dangerous driving habits and make the roads safer during these weekends, there are still too many people who break the law and drive when they shouldn't.

State and local law enforcement agencies routinely launch increased enforcement efforts to try and stop drunk, distracted or reckless drivers before they can cause an accident. Unfortunately, these efforts are not perfect and they cannot stop every person who has made the decision to put others in danger.

While it's not possible to go back in time and prevent an accident, it is possible to hold the people who cause one accountable. Victims of accidents and their families have the right to take legal action and seek compensation from negligent and reckless drivers. Not only can this help people get the help they need to cover damages, it can also help those affected by a crash find some closure and begin to move on.
