Do serious head injuries show up immediately after an accident?

When a truck accident occurs, surviving victims may experience a wide range of debilitating injuries. One such injury is a head injury. When the brain is affected, a traumatic brain injury may occur. This type of injury can be minor, severe or anywhere in between.

While many who suffer brain injuries are fortunate to heal completely, others can have significant problems that affect them for the rest of their lives. However, the signs of a brain injury might not show up immediately, which is why it is important for those who are in a truck accident to seek medical car afterwards, especially if they hit their head or suffered whiplash-type injuries.

A concussion occurs when the head suffers a blow that causes the brain to bounce off the skull. At first, the patient may not feel as though anything is wrong. Every brain injury is different. Some symptoms occur immediately; however, others don't occur for days, weeks or even longer after an accident. The symptoms can vary significantly from person to person, too. Some of the symptoms that might arise in adults include:

-- Headaches

-- Difficulty remember things, organizing daily tasks, concentration, problem solving and decision-making.

-- Neck pain

-- Slowness in reading, acting, thinking and speaking

-- Sleeping pattern changes

-- Loss of balance

-- Easily confused

-- Mood changes

-- Increased sensitivity

These are only a few of the symptoms that might appear with a brain injury. Some of the symptoms may be very subtle, and not even noticeable to family or doctors.

If you have suffered a brain injury in a truck accident or any other type of crash and the other driver was at-fault, then you may be able seek compensation for the injuries you've suffered. An attorney experienced in personal injury cases can provide the help you need to being a case against the at-fault party.
