Statistics speak volumes in car accident deaths in Georgia

In Georgia, The Governor's Office of Highway Safety monitors how many car accidents with traffic fatalities occur each year. Believe it or not, they also set a goal each year to bring down the number of fatalities due to car accidents through planning and implementation. The number of accidents in 2012 was 1,192 and it fell to 1,179 in 2013. They have set a long term goal of 1,130 for 2016. It sounds like they are in the business of saving lives.

There are statistics that further break down how the fatalities occurred. For instance, the rate of death due to alcohol-related accidents for 2013 was 297. The rate went up by two in that year, as 2012 saw 295. The goal for this year, 2016, is 272. It is interesting that the state of Georgia is consistently able to reach its goal every year.

The statistic for speeding deaths for 2012 was 180. It went up quite a bit in 2013 to 197. If you have been on the highways of this state, you know that speeding is a problem that the authorities take very seriously.

Being in a car accident can cause you serious injury. Most of the time it is just a fender bender and only your car is damaged. Sometimes, though, you cannot avoid the accident and, through no fault of your own, you and your passengers are injured and your car is totaled. Knowing what to do is of paramount importance. After you contact the police it may be a good idea to call an attorney who knows the ins and outs of the laws of Georgia and can help you with a court case, if it comes to that.
