How does Georgia fare regarding drunk driving fatalities?

The United States has a drunk driving problem. That is painfully obvious when you think about how many times per day news spreads to a family that their loved one was killed by a drunk driver. The drunk driving problem hasn't skipped over Georgia. Our state fares right at or just below the national rate for drunk driving fatalities depending on what statistic you check.

What is the overall drunk driving fatality rate?

Nationally, the drunk driving fatality rate is 3.3 people per 100,000 of the population. Georgia's rate is just below that at 3.0 people. This death rate is for all ages and both genders.

How do specific age groups fare?

Georgia ranks evenly for drunk driving rates for people who are 35 years old and older with a death rate of 3.1 people. For all other age groups, Georgia ranks below the national rate. The national rate for people up to 20 years old is 1.3 people, and the Georgia rate is 1.0 people. For people who are 21 to 34 years old, the Georgia death rate is 5.8 people and it is 6.7 people nationally.

How does each gender fare?

More men are killed in drunk driving accidents than women. Nationally, the death rate for men is 5.2 people and for women, it is 1.5 people. In this state, the death rates are 4.9 people for men and 1.2 people for women.

Drunk drivers can ruin lives when they claim lives. These fatal accidents left people dead and their family members trying to pick up the pieces. If you lost a loved one in a drunk driving accident, you can take action and make a point about drunk driving by seeking compensation.
