Most people are probably aware that car accidents can result in catastrophic injuries or even death. Few are probably aware of what life is like for someone who is seriously injured in a situation such as this. In this post we will provide information regarding that topic based upon what one woman who was the victim of a devastating car accident has experienced.
The then 21 year old was traveling in a car with her parents on her way home after college graduation and at that point had her whole life ahead of her. On their way home they were involved in a collision with a truck that killed her parents instantly. The crash was caused when the truck attempted to avoid a vehicle driven by a distracted teen driver.
The young woman’s injuries included:
- A traumatic brain injury
- Internal injuries
- Lacerations
- Broken bones
Following the incident doctors put her chance of survival at 10 percent. The college graduate had to relearn how to speak and read. Among other things she also had to conquer smaller everyday tasks like dressing and feeding herself. Now she contends with difficulty accomplishing cognitive tasks and remembering things. Physically, she cannot use her left arm and leg the way she once did. She attributes her recovery to the therapy and medical care she received following the injury.
There is no question that in the years since the accident the woman has accumulated large medical bills. In addition she has had to face the emotional loss of her parents. It is not uncommon for those who are hurt in situations such as these to file a personal injury lawsuit. While there is absolutely nothing that can be done to bring them back or take her body back to the way it once was, financial compensation could make dealing with the aftermath easier.
