In a recent viral video, the claim is the driver — seen traveling at high speeds, swerving and leaving the highway — was on drugs. Watching the video, it is quite scary to even think how it could have all turned out. Luckily, the woman was pulled over before anyone was hurt.

This video was taken by another driver. He saw the reckless behavior, turned on the video and started following the driver. His own sister is now paralyzed following a 2009 accident with a drugged driver. The tragedy that happened to his sister is what fueled his decision to start filming. He didn’t want to see another innocent person hurt.

In this video, the vehicle in question can be seen leaving the highway, driving on the grassy median and then getting back onto the highway. The man filming is eventually able to get her to pull over.

According to reports, after he stopped recording, the driver passed out. She was taken to a nearby hospital and later charged with driving under the influence. It is believed she was high on heroin and methamphetamine.

While at this point the woman has been charged — and not convicted — the fact remains that innocent people are seriously injured, and even killed, by drivers under the influence. This happens on not only on local roadways here in Georgia, but all over the country.

The hope is always that these accidents can be avoided. But when these crashes do occur, there are more consequences for the drugged driver than just criminal charges. Those injured — or the family of someone killed — can decide to take civil action too. While this does not take away from what happened, many do find peace of mind by holding a negligent driver accountable for their decision to drive high or drunk.
