Avoiding a dangerous situation on Georgia roadways is never a bad idea. A good way to do this is by driving defensively, which could be taken to mean looking out for drunk drivers and other dangerous situations.
It often feels impossible to know the condition of other motorists. They could be drowsy; they could be texting or talking on the phone; or they could be driving while intoxicated. Part of driving safely and defensively is knowing how to spot possible intoxicated drivers. When you know the signs to watch for, you could save yourself from a drunk driving accident and the potential injuries such an accident could cause.
Here are a few signs that could indicate a drunken driver.
— Weaving across the road
— Swerving and otherwise driving erratically
— Straddling the roadway’s center line
— Driving at night without headlights
— Driving much lower than the speed limit
— Stopping, slowing or accelerating suddenly
— Making illegal or abrupt turns
— Driving in the wrong lane against oncoming traffic
— Nearly striking other cars or objects
If you see other motorists exhibiting these kinds of behaviors, you should take steps to avoid them even if you are not certain they’re drunk. You should also alert the authorities if you believe the motorist is a danger to other drivers.
While it is not always feasible to spot intoxicated drivers in the Atlanta area, practicing safety and staying alert can help prevent drunk driving accidents. If you have already been involved in a DUI-related accident, seek legal advice from a personal injury lawyer.
